Media Is All In The Family

You interact media every day even if you are just sitting at home. You are interacting with media just by reading this. What about your whole family? Here is a chart of the media tools that are used in my family with some statistics of who uses them the most, the least, what they are mostly used for, etc. Under that you will see a list of my family's favourite and least favourite media tools and the reasoning behind each selection. Is this the same for your family?

Media tools are the things that present media to us. It is easy to see that children of different ages and genders are affected by different media. Younger boys are more into video games while girls of the same age would rather play with dolls. This teaches them different values and lifestyles and will shape what media tools they will like when they get older. Teens are all about Ipods and cell phones. They also watch a lot of television and are on the internet. These media tools help them interact with their friends and broaden their social lives. Adults are more likely to read the newspaper or go on the internet than watch TV. However, this all depends on what media they were exposed to as children and teens. Different genders do affect how some media tools are interpreted but most media can be enjoyed by both males and females. I think there is too much emphasis on terms like “chick flicks” or TV stations such as “Men TV”. After all, a lot of guys like “chick flicks” and a lot of women watch “Men TV”. Is this true for you? What is your favourite media tool?
